Grab the kids and grandchildren and join us on a visit to beautiful Sapelo Island and learn about and eat our local shrimp and crab as part of our annual educational and delicious Shrimping and Crabbing program. The program will begin with informative presentations by Adam Mackinnon, SINERR Education Coordinator, who will discuss the local shrimp and crab production and the fascinating lives of these creatures of our coastal waters. The educational program will be followed up on the beach where you will drag a seine net in the water. Years past the net has caught fish, crabs, stingrays and sharks. The day will end with a good old fashioned crab and low country boil. Guests are encouraged to bring their favorite side dishes to share with the group. Wear beach clothes and bring suntan lotion and bug spray.
Reservations are required and space is limited. Please RSVP at the Visitor Center. Detailed instructions on the ferry transportation will be provided at the time of your reservation. This event is open to the public.
