The Sapelo Island Nature Trail is currently closed as we mitigate the failing causeway and replace it with a boardwalk. This will not only increase accessibility of trail, but will also restore natural hydrology to the site. Salt marsh plant restoration will follow the removal of the causeway, We currently expect the trail to reopen in October 2025, though weather may cause delays.
