SUMMARY:Sapelo Artist in Residency Weekend
DESCRIPTION:The Sapelo Island Artist Residency Weekend offers 3 nights and 4 days of immersive\, creative time on one of Georgia’s most ecologically and culturally rich barrier islands. \nFebruary 20th-23rd\, 2026   &   May 1st-4th\, 2026 \nArtists of all disciplines are encouraged to apply — visual arts\, writing\, music\, performance\, photography\, and beyond. This experience emphasizes solitude\, reflection\, and connection to nature. \nMinimum age 21. You must pass a background check and have a valid driver’s license upon selection. \nRooms are based on two occupants. Artists are not required to stay overnight; ferry arrangements can be made each day\, but it is recommended to get the full immersive experience. The first night’s dinner is provided\, but artists are responsible for bringing all subsequent meals\, snacks\, and beverages. \nPlease see Request For Proposal for Complete Details. Email any questions to Brittany.Dodge@dnr.ga.gov. \nAPPLICATION IS CLOSED. SUMMARY:Bat Box Workshop
DESCRIPTION:🔨Join us March 27th at the Sapelo Island Visitor Center from 4-5pm for a hands-on workshop where you’ll learn about the incredible bat species that call coastal Georgia home\, why they are vital to our ecosystems\, and how they save us money by naturally controlling insect populations. We’ll also talk about why providing safe roosting habitat (like bat boxes) makes a real difference for their survival. \nParticipants will help construct a multi-chamber bat roosts which will be placed around Darien\, including at the Sapelo Visitor Center\, and each attendee will take home their own bat box ready to install in their yard!\n \nNo prior building experience is needed — just a willingness to learn\, build\, and support local wildlife! \nWe’re bat-solutely excited to hang out with you! \nRecommended donation to participate is $25/person to help cover some of our materials\, but we are excited to have you join us either way! Please bring either cash or check with you the day of to donate. \nPlease contact Brittany Dodge at Brittany.dodge@dnr.ga.gov should you have any questions or issues.

SUMMARY:Public Crab & Shrimp Day!
DESCRIPTION:Help us celebrate 50 years of Education! This fun event gives participants the opportunity to visit Sapelo Island to learn about the life histories of Georgia’s blue crab and shrimp\, as well as the local crab and shrimp industries that are a notable part of the coastal economy. Participants will enjoy a beach walk and be given the opportunity to pull seine nets on the beach to capture these two species (and other fish and invertebrates) first-hand. The program will end with a beach picnic lunch! \nThe ferry will depart the mainland at 8:30 a.m. and return to the mainland at 3 p.m. \nReservations are required; space is limited!
