To educate the public and celebrate two very special coastal inhabitants, the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR) will hold its annual Shrimp Day on Tuesday, June 25, 2019.

This fun and educational event gives participants the opportunity to visit Sapelo Island to learn about the life histories of Georgia’s blue crab and shrimp, as well as the local crab and shrimp industries that are a notable part of the coastal economy. Participants will enjoy an educational session and be given the opportunity to pull seine nets on the beach to capture these two  species (and other fish and invertebrates) first-hand. The program will end with a traditional shrimp boil luncheon.

The ferry will depart the mainland at 8:30 a.m. and return at 2:30 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a side dish to share.

Reservations are required, and tickets cost $20 for adults (ages 13 and up) and $10 for children. To register on-line click here SIGN UP TODAY Or mail your check to Friends of Sapelo, 1766 Landing Rd, Darien, GA 31305.
