To coincide with the start of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve (SINERR) invites the public to join SINERR Manager Doug Samson.

DATE: May 31st at 1:00 p.m. for an informational talk entitled The Science of Tropical Cyclones on the Georgia Coast.

LOCATION: Sapelo Island Visitors Center

In his talk, Samson will present a graphical illustration of the history of tropical cyclones along the Georgia coast, generally, and in McIntosh County, specifically. He will confirm that while Georgia is a refuge from hurricanes, it is not so from tropical cyclones. Additional topics will include the challenges of predicting where storms will form, how the impacts of individual storms can vary dramatically, and the kinds of tropical cyclones we can expect in Coastal Georgia in the future. Samson will also share information on how individuals can access a wealth of hurricane-related information online.

The presentation is free, open to the public and will last approximately one hour. For directions to the Sapelo Island Visitors Center, please call (912) 437-3224. For more information about the Sapelo Island National Estuarine Research Reserve, please visit www.sapelonerr.org.
