SINERR is excited to welcome Ava Boettiger as the second Stewardship and Conservation intern through our new partnership with the Student Conservation Association! Ava began her 12-week internship on Sapelo Island in September and will be with us through late November. During her time here, she is supporting both the Stewardship and Research programs, contributing to our salt marsh and maritime forest restorations, as well as a stormwater-wetland enhancement project. She will also join trail crews and participate in the Estuarine Fish Monitoring Cooperative’s monthly research trawls. Ava is passionate and curious about the environment, particularly how plants and wildlife interact with changing landscapes. Originally from Texas, she graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a double major in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Studies. Her honors thesis focused on how grasslands adapt to drought and shifting climates, and she also had the opportunity to study avian diversity in Tanzania. Her long-term goal is to contribute to environmental conservation and sustainability through research and stewardship.
